craptastic

some days you're so on the money - everything flows, things are going great, and you're cranking along on fire. then you have days where everything you touch turns to crappola. which is what it was like for me yesterday. i just couldn't get any of my materials to work for me, i squeezed in one too many emergencies ('cause i'm a sucker for a dude in pain) and i fell way behind. i got home around 9:30 last night, tried to enjoy some quality time with canuck, then plopped down for a night of fitful sleep a.) because it's so bloody hot and our room is like a steam bath and b.) cookie kept waking up every hour on the hour and repeatedly tried to climb into bed with us, "us" meaning "me". i'm tired, cranky, and sick of working, and i have to be at the office tomorrow, a SATURDAY, all bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to work, and all i want to do is sleep, hang with my kid, and do all the stuff that needs to get done around the house.

i need to buy an iron, so i can leave the house looking presentable. i need to do laundry. i need to clean up our yard. i need to wash the floors. *sigh* the list is endless.

but on a happy note, canuck and i finally stole away and saw X-men tonight, and it was awesome! i wonder what kind of mutant power i would most likely possess...

viva italia!

i know the game was on sunday, but i was just sooooo busy cooking, hosting, partying, and cleaning up after aforementioned activities that i haven't been able to post (working evenings doesn't help, either)! we had the in-laws over and i made an italian feast - chicken cutlets, pizza rustica alla neopolitana, and a devil's food cake (homemade, not the box kind!) with homemade icing colored like the italian flag! it was all a hit, i'm still taking the leftovers to work, yum...

my nieghborhood is italian central, to say the least. i think we have more here than rome itself! everyone was driving along the streets shouting, blasting their stereos, waving the italian flags - it was a lot of fun and really nice to see people so proud of their country (other than canada, of course). the funniest scene was the dump truck filled about 20-30 people waving their flags and shouting. man i hoped they cleaned that thing out before they climbed in!

saturday in the 'burbs

i'm off today, but i pretty much have to kiss my saturday's goodbye, since both offices want me to work on the busiest day of the week. they fill up fast, let me tell you, even faster than those cherished evening appointments. but that goes with being the low woman/doctor/mommy on the totem pole. the other docs that i work with at both offices are starting to scale back themselves (and i'm picking up the slack, lucky me!) but they've been at it for a number of years so they've paid their dues. hopefully it will soon be my turn to get a break!

it was back to work on thursday, and i had a nice, calcified root canal ready to greet me. i had already taken out the nerve the day before canada day when he presented to the office with a nasty infection (it actually stunk when i opened it up) so he came back so i could finish the job. two of the four canals were blocked and i had to instrument for about 45 minutes to open them up. and after all my hard work, my last rotary file separated in the mesiolingual canal. damn it! so i told the patient, and my boss, and filled the remaining canals as beautifully as i possibly could. at least it was the last file and it went all the way down to the working length, so i know i adequately cleaned and shaped the canal. hopefully the separated file will act as a sufficient enough obturation material. we'll cross our fingers and hope for the best, no? worst comes to worst, i'll send him to and endodontist to have a look.

the list of projects that probably won't get done anytime soon is as follows: clean up trash that previous owner left in backyard, such as speakers, oil cans, and for real, a 50 pound bag of cement that got wet and set; take out the cigarette butts that said owner also left from the planters in the front of the house and replace with pretty, hardy marigolds; hopefully not kill the marigolds in a record amount of time; replace light fixture covers in upstairs bathroom and put up a shower curtain so that our guests don't get everything wet; replace nasty flourescent light in master bedroom with nice, soft incandescent lighting so that i don't look like i have jandice and/or plague every time i venture into my bedroom. am i forgetting anything else? probably!

back to the US!

so we're leaving in about 9 hours and i still gotta pack the clothes, lunches, extra diapers, and other necessary items to keep us and the cookie entertained for the 5 hour drive to michigan. it's nice, though, it's only 5 hours as opposed to the 10 to NYC. we've rented a car so as to give ned flanders a rest on the mileage, canuck's going to pick it up first thing in the morning. i'm so excited!

and go lansing lugnuts!
