saturday, saturday
and i'm off to work this morning. i'm tired, having missed out on an extra hour of sleep because cookie wakes up the minute light hits her face. which at this point in the year, is about 4:45 am! one more day of work, then one more short week, and then we're off to the states for the fourth of july! this will be the first time i've had an extended stretch of time off since christmas - not counting the day or two i take off for cookie's school stuff, driving to michigan for a weekend, etc. so i'm looking foward to it. this week went much better, either that or i just have a much better attitude. who cares why, i just feel more like my twisted old self again.
my social calender is busy this weekend as i'm attending a jack 'n jill stag tonight with some friends and tomorrow is a surprise baby shower for our best man's wife. wow, i feel so popular! monday will be time to relax and do stuff in the garden and canuck will be gone on a day-long job interview in barrie! since i faxed out all those resumes last thursday our phone has been ringing nonstop. i think i just have that magic touch.

We'll organize another day for you guys to get together with us for an Advil Cold and Sinus party...
I'm curious who Canuck is interviewing with in Barrie. I might be able to give him some info about the office.

advil cold and sinus hosted at my casa to give you guys a break from entertaining. if we're feeling really adventurous we'll break out the robitussin.
the doctor's name is ch@pnick, right off the 400. it's funny because they called to schedule an interview and i spoke with them, and they said, "we'd like canuck to come in to meet the doctor, mabe see an emergency or two." i thought that was very funny.
i think he's widening his search field to outside the GTA because i think offices are more spread out and hence busier. so he's applying to more offices in places like barrie, souffville, oakville, etc. i told him if i winds up near your neck of the woods he should send his endos to you!

Yeah, we've had a few referrals from that office. I think they send to me only because their referral options are limited. I tend to not cooperate with his requests for specific modalities of treatment. He's lately been trying them himself and learning the hard way.
Anything north of the GTA is going to be a much better bet for Canuck. I've had so many people tell me that after they graduated and decided to practice up there, they got busy so much faster than their classmates who stayed in the city. Patients are also much more reasonable. Barrie is also an easy drive from where you live.
As you probably know, I don't run my office like most endo offices and so if Canuck were to refer to me, he might experience some frustration. ie. long waiting times for appointments, little to no time for emergencies, and other little quirky things. Unfortunately my office policies are the only things that help me to maintain a decent level of sanity and stress-control.

wow dude, i didn't know you were so difficult to work with ;-) but i'm sure he'd have a lot to learn from you.
as long as this guy is running a legit operation, does halfway decent work, and won't interfere with how canuck wants to do things (e.g. his principal dentist does all the treatment planning and there is NO comprehensive treatment plan AND he threatened to fire canuck if he didn't buy loupes, crap like that) canuck will be happy. there are a lot of shiesters out there. i don't know how or why people get away with some of the things they do.
canuck is tired of office hopping. he's just waiting for the right time to set up on his own, i.e. the right associateship in which he makes enough money to support us while the practice is in the red. he's worked in so many places since we got out, have you found this to be normal amongst the GPs that you've known? i (gently) touched on the "is it you or them" question last night, as his boss pulled a really dick-ish move yesterday and canuck's getting frustrated and fed up. this is the fourth office in a year and a half, WTF???

Yup, that's why The Girl took so long to find a half decent office to work in also.
I do have to say, though, loupes are something that will reduce stress so much during procedures that you'll be amazed. They do take some getting used to (just like my scope did) but the improvement in posture and visibility will allow you to practise effectively for many many years. The Girl finally got some for her work after years of not using any. Her shoulder aches and pains have pretty much disappeared since using them and teeth are cleaner (her dds checks for calculus after hygiene).
Many hygienists get loupes without any magnification at all. That's because the loupes allow you to work at a fixed distance in a more ergonomic position than being crouched over the patient.
I would definitely have them as part of my wish list if I were him.

we both want to get loupes, just adding that to the long wish-list of things we need/want. it's like you know you'll be more productive with them, and yet you have to be productive from the beginning in order to be able to afford them, which we have so many things going on right now that we can't. i think what pissed canuck off so much was that it didn't even come off as a suggestion - the boss basically said, "you'd better get them, or else you're gone." sad thing is, this principle dentist is not living up to the promises he maid to canuck about booking (which he is not) and payments (co-payments are not being received and collections are much lower than projected). how can one afford loupes in a situation like that? and two sets, too, 'cause if he gets them, i get to get a pair, too ;-) something that we really, really both want to get - after the roof! but my back and neck are starting to feel the effects of bad posture, even after such a short ammount of time practicing.
any additional info on this ch@pnick guy so we can be forewarned? the interview is tomorrow.

No, I don't really know him well enough to say much good or bad. His practice is kind of linked to The Girl's I think. I think (I could be wrong) that the same dentist opened up both and then the current dentists bought into them. It's located in a busy area.
I saw a pt a couple of years ago that had worked for him and she had nothing good to say. He tried to pick her up and also offered her p0t while she was working there. She got uncomfortable and left. But that's her side of the story of course.

LOL, yikes! that sounds a bit extreme! but definitely entertaining. i think canuck would quit too if this dude offered him pot or tried to pick him up. i guess there's only one way to find out for real.
thanks!
